Over the course of two millennia, Christianity has endured, despite dogged and persistent attempts by many to stamp it out. In the process, it has borne witness to innumerable defining events, including the Crusades, the Reformation, the Inquisition, and the changes imposed by Vatican II. As produced by A&E television, the epic-length documentary Christianity: The First Two Thousand Years examines a number of these events chronologically and in detail, with an eye on the individuals throughout history who helped define Christianity's course. The program draws on sources including Christian scriptures themselves, secular historic texts, commentary by historians, and visits to the sites where key events occurred.
